Mrs. Jane Korest

Jane Korest represents Durham County on the SDCAC, and has worked closely with SDC members over the past 5 years to preserve the Little River Plantation cemetery (aka Cameron Grove), where hundreds of enslaved individuals from Stagville were buried. She partnered with SDC members to ensure that the cemetery was transferred from private to public ownership and permanently protected. 

Jane managed the Durham County Open Space and Real Estate Division for 20 years before her retirement in fall 2023. She currently continues to work with the County’s Open Space Program on a part-time basis. She serves on the SDCAC board to ensure coordination between the County and SDC. She brings expertise in land protection, and site management, and cares deeply for the protection of burial sites and culturally significant sites in Durham, particularly those in Durham’s rural areas.
